The aspiring doctors will have just one chance in a year to get a seat in dental colleges through NEET test undergraduates (UG). The test will be conducted by CBSE as per regulation framed under the Dentist Act 1948 (amended in 2016), Admissions in 100% seats of BDS will be done in Dental Colleges run with the approval of Dental Council of India under the ministry of health & family welfare. After the declaration of result by CBSE will prepare an all India rank list for candidates in percentile rank. This will be given to Director General of health services, New Delhi for 15% all India quota seats & providing the result to the state counseling authorities and admitting institutions.
Candidates must be 17 years old at the time of admission. The upper age limit for NEET (UG) is 25 years as on the day of examination for general category candidates. Candidate will get max 3 attempt for NEET exams. Domicile students of different states who have done schooling from other state are eligible for admission in state dental colleges if they are ranked in All India merit list.Here student will have to prove his domicile candidature with necessary documents such as proof of residence of their parents.
The Counseling for admission in seats under the control of other state / university will be conducted as per the notifications issued separately by the authorities concerned. It is necessary for a candidate to obtain minimum of marks at 50 percentile in NEET.
Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS)
It is an undergraduate course in the field of dentistry. This course helps an aspirant to become a dentist. The duration of this course is four years plus one year rotatory Internship.
The internship is mandatory for every students after passing BDS final year.

Oral Medicine and Radiology, Oral and Maxillo-Facial Surgery, Periodontics, Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics, Prosthodontics, Pedodontics and Orthodontics.
One year Rotatory Internship in the clinical and non-clinical departments.

Master in Dental Surgery (MDS)
It is the masters course in different discipline of dentistry. Duration of Master in Dental Surgery is generally 3 years. this course is recognized by Dental Counseling of India (DCI). The programs faster development of critical analysis, research skills & advanced clinical skills.
The entrance exam for getting admission in MDS in countries different dental colleges will be done by appearing in NEET(PG) exam conducted by NBE.
Eligibility criteria for MDS exam
- Candidates must hold BDS degree.
- He/She must be Indian nationals.
- He/She must be registered in Dental Council of India.
- He/She must be undergoing one year rotatory Internship or completed.
