The department is the root of clinical dentistry. This is the first department where patient visits with their problems and a proper diagnosis made with complete investigations. It is the only branch of dentistry which is a connecting link between medical science & dental science. In Chandra Dental College & Hospital the department is situated at ground floor with fully furnished waiting area with all the facilities.
The basic course of oral medicine is organized to supply the students with fundamental principles of identification of oral lesions and conditions. Physical signs of systemic diseases of dental interest are considered to provide the students with essentials of assessment & management of medically compromised patients. It also deal with the diagnostic image of craniofacial dental structures which includes conventional to advanced imaging technique.
In this department students are taught basic principles of patient diagnosis, the fundamentals of physical examination, recognition of oral diseases, principles of biomedicine, an interdisciplinary course in conjunction with department of oral pathology.
With an OPD of over 350 patients per day the faculty and student’s manage to serve best treatment to patients. The department also runs its tobacco cessation clinic, in which students are trained to council patients with habit of tobacco and lead a healthy lifestyle. Department is well equipped with latest and ultramodern instruments like x ray machines, digital x ray machines, intra oral camera, electronic pulp tester, tens machine etc.
The department is headed by Dr Dipti Singh. She has done her graduation from Rama Dental College and hospital and post graduation from Babu Banarasi Das University with teaching experience of more than 9 years. She has more than 30 publications in various national and international journals and 5 published books. She has organized various CDE’s & conference since her post graduation year till now. Even she has chaired many sessions in conferences. She is an oral physician and maxillofacial Radiologist with keen interest in diagnosing and treating oral diseases along with interpretation and treatment planning in 3D imaging systems. Actively contributing in the department research programs, among which a few have been completed and published. Also involved in various institutional and co-curricular activities. She has presented scientific papers & posters in National and International Journals with high repute. Her clinical interest are the management of oral mucosal diseases, oral oncology and orofacial pain. She has also served as an Asst.Prof.in Saraswati Dental College for more than a year. She is also chief warden of girls hostel of this college as well as member of ETHICAL and ANTI-RAGGING COMMITTEE. She is committed in achieving academic excellence providing optimal oral health care & high-quality oral treatment along with oral health promotion & care.
Her research interests in the field of oral medicine & radiology are in prevention of oral diseases and oral cancer. She is Reviewer for British Medical Journal-Case Reports & International Journal of Dental & Craniofacial Research and also of other Indian Journal related with oral medicine & Radiology.
She has guided many post graduated thesis as co-guide with special emphasis on treatment of oral lesions ,radiological estimation of dental age and related with oral cancer management. She has also delivered many lectures on oral hygiene maintenance during pregnancy and in children ,reasons of pre term low weight baby and short span pregnancy & stress coping and bruxism and other dental related factors in Indian Air Force pilots at Bakshi ka Talab station and conducted various dental health camps for children and pregnant women over there.
She has judged many sessions and delivered lectures in national & international conferences. During this course she received numerous awards for academic excellence. Her main research interests include digital radiography, Cone beam CT and its use in 3D Cephalometry.
